NSCDC’s Intervention Averts Another Communal Clash In Osun

In what could have been another communal clash between two Communities in Osun State, it took the intervention of officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps , NSCDC to forestall the chaos.

This followed a dispute between Iloba and Egbedi Communities in the State over land.

A witness account stated that, the altercation started during the ongoing construction of Iloba Town Hall, when the Elegbedi of Egbedi, Oba Muideen Azeez and some of his Chiefs reportedly stormed the site to stop the project.

In an interview, a Community leader in Iloba, Imam Muslihudeen Sodiq alleged that, Oba Azeez had been behind the incessant attacks which lead to the Land dispute between the two Communities.

According to Imam Sodiq, Iloba town has been in existence for years while Egbedi and Olosape towns are the neighbouring towns and they have been with Oloba since inception. The three towns have their boundaries. But chaos started when the new Elegbedi ascended the throne in 2016.

The Community Leader appealed to the State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke amd the State Commissioner of Police to come to their rescue with adequate protection of lives and property.

Imam Sodiq maintained that most people had been displaced while several others had relocated to Ilobu and Ede due to the situation.

Addressing the Residents of Iloba and Olosape towns during a protest to the Sate Secretariat , the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Civil Society Engagement, Mr.Ebenezer Ige promised the swift intervention of the state government on the matter.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke is a peace-loving man. All your grievances have been noted and will be reported to him appropriately. He will take swift action on the matter,” Mr Ige assured.
