Traders at the Ajumose Complex inside the popular Dugbe Market in Ibadan have alleged Ibadan Northwest Local Government of attempting to frustrate their businessess.
Protesting traders noted that the local government planned to build new shops on the only parking space available for the complex, saying such development would impede free flow of commercial activities as it would block customer access.
The traders who spoke through their chairman said that the shops were leased to them in 2019 on a 15-year contract, maintaining that the present administration in the state began a breach of contract by adding more shops within the complex.
The chairman said the traders were perplexed when trucks loaded with building materials arrived at the market on Sunday morning, despite assurances from the local government chairman that only measurements would be taken.
He said the development triggered protests among the traders who locked the market gates to prevent the trucks from entering until police officers intervened to calm the situation.
The protesters who successfully prevented the truck from entering took the protest to Ibadan Northwest Local Government Chairman .
