Just In: Nigerian Minister Resigns

Minister of defence Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has officially relinquished his appointment.

Alhaji Badaru in a letter written to President Bola Tinunu on Monday said his resignation takes immediate effect,noting that he quitted on health grounds.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and appreciated Abubakar for his services to the nation as a member of his cabinet

Special adviser to the president on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga said in a statement that president Tinubu will likely inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.

Badaru Abubakar, 63, was a two-term governor of Jigawa state from 2015 to 2023. He was appointed as a minister on August 21, 2023, by President Tinubu.

Alhaji Badaru resignation comes after President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to elaborate on its scope in due course.
