Defender Semi Ajayi put the Super Eagles ahead in the 36th minute when he connected superbly to a fine cross from Alex Iwobi.
Star Striker Victor Osimhen thought he had given Nigeria a 2 goal lead early in the second half only for VAR to rule the goal out for offside.
Charles M’Mombwa equalized for Tanzania in the 50th minute, but Nigeria did not waste time to restore their lead as Ademola Lookman scored a stunner in the 52nd minute.
In other matches played on Tuesday, Democratic Republic of Congo beat Benin Republic 1-0, Senegal thrashed Botswana 3 nil while Tunisia defeated Uganda by 3 goals to 1.
Wednesday’s fixtures include Burkina Faso vs Equatorial Guinea (1:30pm), Algeria vs Sudan (4pm), Cote D’Ivoire vs Mozambique (6:30pm) and Cameroon vs Gabon (9pm).
