At least 10 shops were on Monday night completely razed by fire at the Iya Maryam Adebara Complex in the Ogunpa Market area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Tuesday morning in a statement said the agency’s personnel received a distress call about the inferno incident via a telephone call from Baale Ogunpa, Alhaji Nurudeen Lawal, at exactly 8:11 pm on Monday.
Mr. Maroof explained that firemen swiftly responded to the scene and, upon arrival, found 10 shops out of several already engulfed by the inferno
The chairman attributed the fire incident to a generator being fueled by one of the shop’s occupants.
He maintained that no casualties were recorded while commending the police personnel from Iyaganku Police Headquarters for providing security at the scene of the incident.
