Oyo Lawmakers Attend Stakeholders’ Meeting With Police Over Jobele Incident 

Following the recent incident involving personnel of the Jobele Divisional Police Headquarters in Oyo town, the three Lawmakers representing Oyo Zone in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba), Hon Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman! Oyo East/Oyo West) and Hon Oladeji Oparinde (Afijio) on Thursday attended a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the instance of the Oyo State Police Command.

The meeting which was presided over by the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, took place at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

During the deliberations, the Representatives expressed their concerns regarding the alleged unprofessional conduct of certain personnel attached to the Jobele Divisional Headquarters.

According to Hon Oyekola, Hon Rahaman and Hon Oparinde in a Joint Statement issued and made available to Newsmen, the meeting was an important platform for constructive engagement between the Nigeria Police and representatives of the affected communities, including youths, traditional leaders, and Students’ Union leaders.

The Lawmakers commended the Commissioner of Police for his prompt response to the situation, particularly the immediate steps taken to address the matter, including issuance of a query to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, and the detention of the officers involved pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

“The decision to assign the investigation to the Nigeria Police Force X-Squad further demonstrates the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and public confidence” The Statement adds.

The Oyo State House of Assembly Lawmakers also described the deployment of additional tactical teams to strengthen security presence in Oyo town and its surrounding communities as a welcome development.

” As representatives of the people, we remain committed to ensuring that the rights, dignity, and safety of our constituents are protected at all times. We therefore urge the Police Command to sustain its efforts toward a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation, and to ensure that anyone found culpable is dealt with in accordance with the law”

Hon Oyekola, Hon Rahaman and Hon Oparinde, however, appealed to all residents of Oyo town and its environs to remain calm, law-abiding, and continue to cooperate with the security agencies for peace and security of all.

They assured their constituents in Atiba, Oyo East/Oyo West and Afijio State Constituencies that they would continue to engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that justice was served and that such incident would not repeat itself.
