The All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State has reacted to the elevation of three high Chiefs in Ibadanland and their installation as Obas.
Despite their absence at the ceremony, the coronation took place at the premises of the famous Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The concerned High Chiefs are Ekerin Balogun of Ibadan, Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Oyekola Babalola and Ekarun Balogun of Ibadan, Dr Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.
In his address, Governor Seyi Makinde who spoke through the Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal said the coronation became imperative in order not to create vacuum in the Ibadan chieftaincy law.
Governor Makinde maintained that whether the concerned monarchs were present or not, their elevation is sacrosanct under the extant laws.
However, reacting to the development, the Oyo APC, through its publicity secretary, Alhaji Olawale Sadare, said Governor Makinde made a mockery of the Yoruba traditional institution by going ahead with the coronation, despite an earlier statement from the Olubadan palace notifying the government of the unavailability of the concerned High Chiefs.
“Gov. Makinde made a mockery of the Yoruba traditional institution today when he installed photographs and empty chairs as Obas. He can never have any justification for this shameful act but we are not surprised because we have known him to be an accidental public servant. He has written a bad page for himself in the book of history and we do not pity him.”
