The Osun West Progressive Youth Network has called for the zoning of the senatorial ticket of Osun West Senatorial District to Ede Federal Constituency, E4, ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasising the need for equity, inclusiveness, and strategic political balance within the party.
Addressing journalists during a press conference, the spokesperson of the group, Adedokun Ismail, said the position was reached after “careful reflection and broad consultations across the district,” noting that the proposal was made “in good faith, with deep respect for party leadership, and with a sincere desire to strengthen unity and enhance the electoral fortunes of our party.”

Adedokun explained that the prevailing political developments within the party make it imperative to ensure fair distribution of opportunities across the federal constituencies. According to him, “with the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate from Irewole Federal Constituency, it becomes necessary, in the spirit of fairness and internal harmony, to ensure equitable distribution of major political opportunities.” He added that the demand “is not a question of entitlement, but of strategic balance and sustained cohesion within our party structure.”
The group identified Ede Federal Constituency as “a strong and strategic electoral bloc based on verifiable indicators,” citing its 450 polling units, the highest in the district, spread across Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo. This, the group said, reflects “a wide grassroots presence and a deep electoral structure capable of mobilising support effectively.”
Adedokun further noted that components within the constituency have consistently demonstrated commitment to party growth, stressing that they remain part of “a broader collective aspiration for fair representation at the senatorial level.” He maintained that the argument for E4 is rooted in collective strength rather than sectional interest.
The group also referenced data from the Independent National Electoral Commission, stating that Ede Federal Constituency “leads in new voter registrations across the Osun West Senatorial District,” an indication of “increasing political awareness, strong grassroots mobilisation, and renewed civic engagement.”
Providing comparative figures, he stated that while Ayedaade, Irewole, and Isokan Federal Constituency has 195,207 registered voters, and Ayedire, Iwo, and Ola-Oluwa has 164,291, Ede Federal Constituency leads with 253,532 registered voters, making it the largest voting bloc in the district. This demographic advantage, he said, “underscores the strategic importance of Ede Federal Constituency in shaping electoral outcomes in Osun West.”
He added that the constituency is well positioned to contribute significantly to upcoming elections, noting its capacity to support the party “in both the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for 15 August 2026, and the 2027 general elections.”
On representation, the group highlighted what it described as an imbalance in recent senatorial rotations. Adedokun recalled that Iwo Federal Constituency produced a Senator between 2019 and 2023, while Ede Federal Constituency last held the position between 2015 and 2017. Since then, he said, the constituency “has not enjoyed sustained representation at the Senate level,” a situation that calls for reconsideration “within the framework of equity, inclusiveness, and political stability.”
The group maintained that zoning the ticket to E4 “represents not only a gesture of fairness, but also a strategic step towards strengthening internal harmony and consolidating electoral advantage.”
Reaffirming their stance, the spokesperson stressed that “this position is not driven by sentiment, but by a careful assessment of equity, data, and long term party interest,” adding that the youth remain committed to “the unity, progress, and electoral success of our party.”
The Osun West Progressive Youth Network, therefore, appealed to party leaders and stakeholders to give the proposal “thoughtful consideration in the broader interest of justice, balance, and electoral viability.”
The press conference ended with a strong declaration of commitment to party success, as the group pledged readiness “to mobilise constructively across all federal constituencies in Osun West to ensure an overwhelming victory for our party in 2027.”
The statement was signed by the Osun West Progressive Youth Network under its guiding slogan, “Equity, Strength, Victory.”
