Just In: NUT Gets New Executives

New executive members have emerged to lead the Oyo State wing of the Nigerian Union of Teachers following the conduct of the union’s 8th Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Ibadan.

The election, held on Wednesday, ushered in fresh leaders expected to pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.

Addressing delegates at the conference, the National President of the union, Titus Audu Amba, explained that periodic elections remain part of the union’s democratic tradition. Represented by the National Social Secretary, Titi Ade Adebanjo, he noted that the union would continue to prioritise the welfare of teachers and advocate for improved teaching and learning conditions nationwide.

The outgoing chairman of the Oyo State wing, Raji Oladimeji Ismael, used the occasion to reflect on the achievements of his administration between 2022 and 2026.

He said the leadership recorded progress in areas such as salary payments, promotion arrears, annual increments and pension-related matters affecting teachers across the state.

According to him, the union also intervened in disputes involving wrongful postings, victimisation and salary stoppages through its welfare and legal committees.

He added that sustained advocacy by the union led to the recruitment of additional teachers and non-teaching staff, helping to ease pressure on existing workers and improve learning outcomes in schools.

Comrade Raji further disclosed that several infrastructural projects were completed during the period, including the renovation of the union’s secretariat, construction of classrooms, expansion of the NUT Resource Centre and development of an Olympic-size sports complex. He expressed optimism that the achievements recorded would provide a solid foundation for the incoming administration.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Hassan Ajibola Fatai, promised to work closely with members and stakeholders to strengthen the union and protect the integrity of the teaching profession. Other officials elected at the conference include Adeleke Adesina, Alonge Oluyemisi, Badmus Abiona and Ajala Niyi.
