President Bola Tinubu has described as barbaric the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during the recent attack on schools in the Esinele community of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The President spoke while security agencies continue efforts to rescue the remaining victims taken away by gunmen who stormed the community last Friday.
The attack affected Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, as well as L.A. Primary School, where staff and pupils were abducted.
Since the incident, security operatives have intensified rescue operations, with personnel reportedly working round the clock to secure the release of the victims and track down those behind the attack.
President Tinubu sympathised with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the state government and residents of the affected community over the development, describing the incident as painful and unfortunate.
He also expressed sadness over the death of one of the abducted teachers, while extending condolences to the affected families. According to him, the Federal Government is collaborating closely with the Oyo State Government to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims.
The President commended the Inspector-General of Police and the police authorities in Oyo and Kwara states for their swift response, including the deployment of tactical teams and the Intelligence Response Team to support ongoing operations in the area.
President Tinubu added that the growing cases of kidnapping across parts of the country further highlight the need for the creation of state police. He urged the National Assembly to speed up efforts toward passing the law that would establish state police to strengthen security, especially in underserved communities.
