39 Year Old Professor Becomes New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, popularly known as JAMB. He will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term in office is expected to end on July 31, 2026.

Professor Aina, who will clock 40 years in July, is widely recognised as an academic and technology expert with experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector reforms. His appointment is seen as part of efforts to sustain reforms in the nation’s tertiary admission system.

The new JAMB registrar obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He also earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. In addition, he attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina reportedly began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in admissions and data management processes. The exposure is said to have influenced his later contributions to examination reforms and system improvement.

Over the years, Professor Aina has worked closely with government institutions on technology-driven reforms, focusing on digital transition, policy implementation and operational efficiency.

At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

He has also served as consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, as well as several state ministries of education.

His areas of expertise include ICT systems, examination security and digital process optimisation.

Professor Aina is a member of professional organisations such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would build on the achievements recorded under the outgoing leadership of Professor Oloyede.
