Ileya: Oyo Govt Distributes Food Items At Subsidized Rates To Workers

Workers in Oyo State have begun to receive subsidized food items from the state government as part of efforts to ease the financial burden ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The distribution exercise, coordinated through the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State, was officially unveiled on Friday at the corporation’s premises in Ibadan.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of the corporation Sheikh Akeugberu Akeugbagold represented by the coordinating Head of the corporation, Tunde Oladeji, explained that the initiative was designed to support workers and help them celebrate the festive season without undue hardship.

According to the chairman, the state government spent over ₦120 million on the procurement of the food commodities distributed to workers.

He explained further that the programme reflects the welfare-focused agenda of the administration of Seyi Makinde, which is aimed at improving the living conditions of workers across the state.

Items made available to interested workers under the scheme include bags of rice, Kings vegetable oil and rams, all sold at affordable and subsidised prices.

Many beneficiaries were seen arriving at the venue to collect the items, expressed appreciation to the government for the timely intervention ahead of the Muslim celebration.

The chairman further explained that workers benefiting from the scheme would repay the cost of the commodities through salary deductions spread over three months, beginning from July 2026 salaries.

He noted that the arrangement was carefully designed to make repayment convenient and stress-free for workers.

He added that the initiative demonstrates the commitment of the present administration to workers’ welfare and food accessibility, especially during festive periods.

He also urged residents and workers in the state to continue supporting government policies and programmes, assuring them that more people-oriented initiatives would continue to be introduced for the benefit of the people.
