The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has commissioned two motorised boreholes at Bodija and Oje markets in Ibadan, Oyo State, to improve access to clean and sustainable water for traders and residents.
The borehole projects were facilitated by Ibadan-born philanthropist, Alhaja Muibat Oduniyi, to commemorate the monarch’s first coronation anniversary scheduled for September this year.
The projects were unveiled during separate ceremonies attended by market leaders, traders, community leaders and residents of the affected Areas.
Represented by the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District and Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Sharafadeen Alli, and the wife of Olubadan, Queen Rashidat Ladoja, Oba Ladoja emphasized that access to clean water remains fundamental to healthy living and inclusive development.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland commended Alhaja Oduniyi for her commitment to community development and sustainability, noting that the initiative would significantly improve the daily lives of traders and residents in the two markets.
He described the gesture as a worthy contribution to the growth and development of Ibadanland and encouraged other sons and daughters of the ancient city to emulate such acts of philanthropy.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, the Babaloja of Bodija Market, Alhaji Aderemi Jimoh, and the Babaloja of Oje Market, Alhaji Saliu Delesolu, described the projects as timely interventions that directly address a critical need within their communities.
They praised Oba Ladoja for his unwavering commitment to the development of Ibadanland, noting that his efforts to encourage indigenes to contribute to the progress of the ancient city have continued to yield positive results.
In her remarks, Alhaja Muibat Oduniyi said she was inspired by the developmental strides and leadership qualities of Oba Ladoja, whom she described as a father figure deeply committed to the advancement of Ibadanland.
Also speaking, Queen Rashidat Ladoja said the provision of reliable water sources would improve public health, reduce hardship and enhance the overall well-being of traders and residents who rely on the markets for their livelihoods.
She noted that the project was designed to provide a lasting solution to water challenges in the beneficiary communities.
Meanwhile, Senator Sharafadeen Alli promised to install additional solar-powered street lights within Bodija Market to enhance security and protect lives and property.
