Suspend All Rallies, Campaigns In Oriade LGA – Osun Police Tells Political Parties

Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has called on political parties and their supporters to suspend all planned political activities in Oriade Local Government Area of the state citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

The directive, which affects rallies, campaigns, processions, gatherings, and other political engagements scheduled for tomorrow, was announced by the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.

A statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, quoted the Commissioner to have explained that the decision followed intelligence reports indicating potential security threats within the local government area.

According to the police chief, the command considered the precautionary measure necessary after efforts to engage relevant political stakeholders and promote peaceful coexistence failed to yield the desired outcome.

Gotan noted that discussions aimed at ensuring harmony among the parties reached a deadlock due to the unwillingness of some stakeholders to cooperate with peace initiatives.

He stressed that the temporary restriction is intended to avert any breakdown of law and order, safeguard lives and property, and ensure the safety of residents across Oriade Local Government Area.

The Commissioner appealed to political actors, supporters, and members of the public to comply with the directive in the interest of peace, assuring residents that the police command remains committed to providing a secure and peaceful environment while urging continued cooperation with security agencies.
