Oyo Farmer Regains Freedom After Days In Captivity

A prominent farmer in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr. Sunday Togo, has regained his freedom after spending days in captivity following his abduction from his residence in Ekeje village.

His rescue was successfully carried out by operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), who reportedly tracked the kidnappers through the forest.

Despite securing the farmer’s release without injury, sources disclosed that the abductors escaped with foreign currency valued at about N10 million. The money was said to have been taken during the kidnapping operation before the victim was eventually rescued.

Speaking on the operation, the Oyo State Operations Officer of the VGN, Mr. Kola Olaoye, who led the rescue mission, lamented the challenges facing the security outfit. He noted that inadequate logistical and moral support continues to hinder the group’s effectiveness despite its consistent role in combating crimes, particularly kidnapping, across the state.

He stressed that the VGN’s achievements over the years should have attracted stronger government support.

Reacting after regaining his freedom, Mr. Togo expressed gratitude to God and the vigilante operatives for their efforts in securing his release.

He also raised concerns over what he described as increasing collaboration between some local residents and criminal elements, warning that such alliances pose a serious threat to security in communities.
