As count down to Ekiti State governorhip election begins, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed confidence in its preparedness for the June 20 governorship election in the State after successfully conducting a mock accreditation and voting exercise across the state.
The exercise, which took place in selected polling units spread across 12 local government areas, was aimed at evaluating the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and testing other critical election-day procedures ahead of the poll.
Reports from ad-hoc staff involved in the exercise indicated that the accreditation and voting process was completed within one to two minutes in most locations.
They noted that the exercise went smoothly, with no significant technical issues recorded.
Speaking after monitoring the exercise, INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, described the outcome as encouraging and said it demonstrated the Commission’s operational readiness for the governorship election.
He explained that the mock exercise was designed to assess the effectiveness of the technology and logistics that would be deployed on election day.
Amupitan further explained that the BVAS successfully identified individuals who attempted accreditation outside their assigned polling units, underscoring the system’s ability to curb electoral malpractice.
He assured residents of adequate security arrangements and encouraged all eligible voters to participate in the June 20 election.
