Millions of users across the world were unable to access Facebook and Instagram on Friday afternoon following a widespread outage that affected the popular social media platforms owned by Meta.
The disruption impacted Facebook’s website, mobile application and Messenger service, with several users reporting that they were unexpectedly logged out of their accounts.
Many users who attempted to regain access encountered error messages stating that “an unexpected error occurred,” preventing them from logging back into their profiles.
Reports have it that visitors to Facebook’s website were also greeted with a notice indicating that the company was aware of the problem and was working to restore normal service.
As the outage persisted, users flocked to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to verify the issue and share their experiences, leading to a surge in discussions about the disruption.
