Security arrangements for the forthcoming off-cycle governorship election in Ekiti State received a major boost and support on Friday with the arrival of top-ranking police officers deployed to supervise operations across the state.
Leading the security team are the Supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Dr Olanrewaju Ogunlowo who have been saddled by the Inspector General of Police with the mandate of overseeing the free conduct of the Ekiti governorship poll scheduled to hold on Saturday.
Addressing security personnel and key stakeholders shortly after their arrival, DIG Mustapha emphasized the vital role of collaboration among the various security agencies assigned to election duties.
He noted that effective coordination would be crucial to ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process.
The Senior Police Officer also charged security operatives to conduct and comport themselves professionally throughout the exercise, urging them to remain disciplined, impartial and fully guided by the provisions of the law while carrying out their assignments.
He further called on political parties, candidates, supporters and residents of Ekiti state to work closely with security agencies by maintaining peace and avoiding actions capable of disrupting the election.
Reassuring the public of their safety, DIG Mustapha stated that comprehensive security measures had already been put in place by the police and other security agencies to protect voters, electoral officials and sensitive materials before, during and after the governorship poll.
