The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified its efforts in cracking down open grazing across parts of the state, resulting in the impoundment of six cows during separate enforcement operations in Ibadan.
The enforcement actions were carried out on Thursday during a routine monitoring exercise conducted by the agency in the Old Ife Road, Alakia, and Elebu Idi Ayunre areas of Ido Local Government Area. Officials discovered cattle grazing openly in violation of the state’s livestock control regulations.
According to the Authority, five cows were seized at the affected locations after their owners were found to have breached existing laws prohibiting open grazing.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with government directives on livestock management in Oyo State.
In a separate incident on the same day, OYRLEA officials responded to reports of cattle roaming along the busy Mokola highway in Ibadan. Upon arrival, the team found three cows grazing dangerously close to the roadway, creating potential hazards for motorists and pedestrians.
While one of the animals was successfully impounded, the remaining two escaped before they could be apprehended.
The Authority noted that such incidents pose significant risks to public safety and could lead to traffic disruptions or accidents if left unchecked.
OYRLEA while carrying the operation, reaffirmed its determination to enforce the state’s anti-open grazing regulations, stressing that it will continue monitoring communities and major roads to prevent violations.
The agency also urged livestock owners to adhere strictly to the law, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding residents, preserving environmental order, and promoting peaceful coexistence across Oyo State.
