Police have arrested a man in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State for allegedly selling alcoholic drinks at a polling unit during the governorship election in the State.
Police officers on election duty reportedly apprehended the suspect while he was selling beer to some voters and party agents within the polling area.
The police noted that, the offense contravened the restrictions order put in place to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise.
Earlier, the Ekiti State Police Command had banned hawking and the sale or consumption of alcoholic drinks around polling units, alongside restrictions on movement and political activities.
The command said, the arrest was made to serve as deterrence to other intending violators so as to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
