As preparations for August 15 Osun State governorship election continue to gather momentum , the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the Electronic Register of Voters (ERV) to registered political parties as part of its electoral timetable for the election
The presentation which was held at the INEC State Headquarters in Osogbo, was led by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, who described the exercise as an important step towards ensuring a fair and credible electoral process.
The electoral umpire said a total of 2,239,233 registered voters are expected to participate in the governorship election, noting that voting will take place across 3,332 polling units located within 3,763 Registration Areas (RAs) in the state’s 30 local government areas and the Area Office in Modakeke.
Mrs. Babalola maintained that the distribution of the Electronic Register of Voters is one of the statutory activities contained in INEC’s election timetable, noting that it enables political parties to verify voter information and adequately prepare for the election.
She described the register as a vital tool for promoting accountability, transparency and credibility, stressing that the Commission remains committed to conducting an election that complies with constitutional provisions and international best practices.
Mrs. Babalola also appealed to political parties to intensify voter mobilisation and encourage eligible voters to participate peacefully in the poll.
The event was attended by representatives of political parties, security agencies, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, religious leaders, election observers, development partners and other key stakeholders.
