Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has visited the 44 pupils and teachers recently rescued from captivity in Oriire Local Government Area of the state who are currently receiving medical care at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Hospital, Odogbo, Ibadan.
The Governor during his visit on Saturday expressed satisfaction with the condition of the victims, noting that both the children and their teachers were responding positively to treatment and remained in stable condition.
Governor Makinde who said efforts were already in place to reunite the rescued victims with their families, explained that arrangements had been made for some of them to meet with their parents and loved ones as part of their emotional and psychological recovery following the traumatic experiences
He commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for the professionalism, dedication and coordinated operations that resulted in the successful rescue of the victims from captivity.
The Governor also thanked the people of Oyo State for their patience, support and understanding throughout the period of the abduction, assuring residents that the government would continue to provide updates on the rescue operation and subsequent engagements.
Makinde further urged citizens to remain united in confronting security challenges, stressing that insecurity is a global concern that requires collective action rather than division along political, ethnic or religious lines.
