PFIPC: Gbajabiamila Should Step Aside – Laolu Akande

Former Aide to Former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, has called on the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, to temporarily relinquish his post following allegations linking him to the alleged fake agency scandal.

Akande while speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, stressed that such a decision would reinforce public confidence and trust in the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Akande argued that senior public officials must protect the credibility of the offices they occupy, especially when faced with allegations capable of attracting widespread public concern.

He said stepping aside while investigations continue should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing but rather as a demonstration of respect for due process and good governance.

Akande explained further that allowing investigations to proceed without the occupant of such a high office remaining in position would help to eliminate perceptions of interference and strengthen the integrity of the investigative process, thereby earning him respect and credibility before Nigerians

He further stated that public accountability requires leaders to place the interest of the nation above personal interest whenever controversies of this nature arise.

He said Femi Gbajabiamila holds it to himself, his family, the President and Nigerians to step aside , noting that such will earn him respect.
