Former Accord Governorship Candidate in Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi David Falegan, has formally withdrawn his election petition challenging the victory of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the decision was made in the interest of peace, unity, and the continued development of the state.
Falegan withdrawal of the petition was conveyed in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Comrade Francis Adewumi.
The statement maintained that Falegan’s decision followed a heartfelt appeal from his mother, Madam Caroline Falegan, widow of the late Chief Ojo Falegan, a respected elder and one of Ekiti’s founding figures.
In her appeal, Madam Falegan appealed to her son to put the collective interest of Ekiti above the legal contest and petition, explained that his ambition to govern the state was inspired by a genuine desire to improve the lives of the people of Ekiti State.
She appealed to him to allow peace to prevail and give the state the opportunity to continue on its development path.
Accepting his mother’s advice, Falegan said he had resolved to discontinue the tribunal proceedings.
He explained that his decision was influenced by the values of honour, selfless service, and commitment to Ekiti which he inherited from his late father, Pa Falegan , stressing that his political aspiration was never driven by personal gain but by a desire to serve the people.
The former Accord governorship candidate in the state said that stepping away from the legal battle should not be seen as defeat, but as an act of statesmanship.
He also urged his legal team, party members, and supporters to view the withdrawal as a patriotic decision rather than an act of weakness while assuring them that his vision for a better Ekiti would continue through community service, empowerment programmes, and grassroots development initiatives.
