Atiba Residents Sound Alarm Over Suspicious Movements In Oyo Forest

Residents around the Old Oyo National Park where school children were abducted in Oyo State have called the attention of the public and security agencies to the suspicious movement of strange individuals around the vicinity.

The concerned residents in Atiba local government said faces not familiar to the community were seen roaming the forests.

The villagers guessed the roaming individuals could probably be stranded bandits who escaped from the park during a joint rescue operation of abducted pupils in Oriire.

Although local Vigilantes have been responding to distress calls from the affected villages, the villagers noted that a recent incident called for total cleanup of the forests around them as suspected bandits now look for escape routes from their area.

A member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity recounts how over the last weekend one of the suspects was apprehended.

The Vigilante who maintained that they answered distress calls from the villagers from time to time said the arrested suspect who could not give proper account of his identity or mission in the forest has been handed over to the Atiba Divisional Police headquarters in Oyo town after initial interrogation.
