The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two surveillance aircrafts as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen security and enhance intelligence gathering across the state.
The arrival of the aircrafts in Ibadan fulfills the commitment made by the State Government that they would be delivered before the end of July, reinforcing its resolve to improve the operational capacity of security agencies.
Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the aircrafts would play a significant role in supporting aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response to security threats.
He recalled that the government announced the acquisition of the two aircrafts on July 8, 2025, as part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s security strategy to tackle emerging criminal activities and improve public safety.
According to the Commissioner, Governor Makinde had earlier revealed on July 18, 2026, that the aircrafts had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final deployment to Oyo State.
Oyelade noted that the government’s assurance to residents that the aircrafts would arrive before the end of July has now been fulfilled with their successful arrival in Ibadan.
The surveillance aircrafts are expected to complement the operations of security agencies, including the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), by enhancing aerial monitoring and intelligence-led operations aimed at combating crime.
Governor Seyi Makinde was present at the airport to receive the aircrafts, marking what the state government described as another milestone in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Oyo State.
