The Rotary Club of Ibadan-Vanguard in Collaboration with Franbos Private Hospital, Eleruku Area, Soka, Ibadan, Oyo State, has held a Maternal and Child Health Outreach aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for women, expectant mothers and children in the community.
The outreach which attracted scores of beneficiaries was held as part of the Club’s humanitarian service initiatives, featured free medical consultations, antenatal care, immunisation as well as health education, nutritional counselling, distribution of essential drugs and other maternal and child health services.
The beneficiaries were tested for Malaria, Typhoid, Pregnancy Examination, Infectious Diseases and many others , while those in need of drugs were also given, free of charge.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Vanguard, Rotarian (Dr) Niyi Abdul said, the outreach was organised to reduce preventable maternal and infant mortality by promoting early access to healthcare and encouraging healthy practices among mothers and children.
According to Dr Abdul, maternal and child health remains the Rotary’s focus for the month of July, stressing that the Club is committed to supporting the less privileged and to improve healthcare delivery at the grassroots through humanitarian services.
On his part, Chief Executive Officer, Franbos Private Hospital, Eleruku Area, Soka, Ibadan, Dr Francis Akinmoladun who is also a Rotarian said, there are some dwellers within the Community who could not afford healthcare services due to financial constraints, hence, the free medical outreach put together by Rotary Club of Ibadan-Vanguard had given them opportunity to benefit.
Some of the Health Professionals at the Outreach educated participants on the importance of regular antenatal visits, exclusive breastfeeding, routine immunisation, proper nutrition and personal hygiene.
They also encouraged the beneficiaries, particularly the Mothers to promptly seek medical attention whenever they notice something strange during pregnancy or in their children.
Beneficiaries including Mrs Dasola Alabi and Mrs Labake Awe expressed appreciation to the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Vanguard for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
They maintained that the free medical services and health education would go a long way in improving their wellbeing particularly those who cannot readily afford healthcare delivery due to the current economic challenges in the Country.
The outreach attracted Expectant mothers, Women, Children and other residents within the Community, with Rotary Club of Ibadan-Vanguard reaffirming it’s commitment to sustaining interventions that promote healthier families and stronger communities in line with the Focus of Rotary Club International.
At the outreach were Secretary, Rotary Club of Ibadan-Vanguard, Rotarian Adeola Adedire and other members of the Club.
