The Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed speculation that the party’s Obi-Kwankwaso, OK, ticket will withdraw from the 2027 presidential election in favour of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Senator Kwankwaso made the position known in a strongly worded statement in which he expressed concern over what he described as unnecessary attacks by the ADC Presidential Campaign Council against him, the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and the party.
He accused the ADC campaign team of creating mischief by suggesting that the OK ticket was working for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, or might step down for the ADC candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Describing the allegations as unfounded and unhelpful, Senator Kwankwaso insisted that neither he nor Mr Obi had any intention of withdrawing from the Presidential race in favour of another party.
“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party,” he declared, expressing confidence in the ticket’s capacity, competence and readiness to lead the country.
The former Kano State Governor further maintained that the OK ticket was neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates.
He stressed that there was no possibility or justification for the NDC candidates to abandon their ambition in favour of the ADC or any other political party.
Senator Kwankwaso also challenged the ADC campaign team to concentrate on addressing serious allegations reportedly levelled against its candidate by Vice President Kashim Shettima rather than engaging in what he described as unnecessary attacks on the NDC leadership.
