Police Beef-Up Security Permanently On Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Axis Following Kidnap Attempt

The Nigeria Police Force has deployed additional personnel and tactical assets to the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road following a daring kidnapping attempt that left two persons injured.

​The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mr. Olugbenga Abimbola, ordered the immediate reinforcement to secure the highway and restore commuter confidence.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed this in a statement.

​This development came after a failed abduction attempt around Onigambari axis, along the Mamu/Ijebu-Ode stretch.

Report has it that some miscreants intercepted vehicles carrying passengers who were returning to their destinations after attending a social function in Ibadan.

​According to the statement,swift intervention of police operatives averted the danger

​”The rapid response of our officers prevented the suspects from executing their plans. While the victims initially fled into the nearby forest for safety during the hail of gunfire, they have since been located and reunited,” The statement reads.

The statement notes that two individuals who sustained gunshot wounds during the attack are receiving medical attention at private hospitals in Ibadan.

​The statement adds that Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force intended to provide a permanent security presence along the volatile route,hence the deployment of the troop.
