Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Ile-Ife, has shut down the campus, ordering students to proceed on a mid-semester break.
This followed escalating protests over the newly introduced transportation system.
In a Statement by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the decision became necessary after a series of protests by students over the newly introduced transportation system.
Mr. Olanrewaju said the decision was to restore normalcy and create an atmosphere for dialogue with stakeholders.
He assured that the University Management would continue to engage relevant stakeholders to address the concerns raised and to ensure that normalcy is restored on campus.
The School Management enjoined Students to remain law-abiding and use this period responsibly.
The Students had earlier staged another peaceful protest calling for an improvement of the Campus transport System and other issues bordering on student’s welfare.
They marched around the institution’s main gate in the early hours of Tuesday.
Addressing Newsmen, The PRO Great Ife Student Union, SUG, Mr.Oreoluwa Olowosile appealed to the school management to provide more buses to ease the transport system in the institution to ease the stress, students and members of the academic community experience.
