NSCDC Engages In Gun Duel With Armed Kidnappers In Oyo

A tense moment unfolded in Iseyin, Oyo State, as operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Agro-Rangers responded to a distress call reporting suspected kidnapping activities in the Sawmill area of the town.

What began as a routine intervention quickly escalated into a gun duel with armed suspects.

According to the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Samuel Opebiyi, the Agro-Rangers were alerted by residents and swiftly moved to the scene.

On arrival, they encountered a group of five armed men who reportedly opened fire on the operatives.

In response, the officers returned fire in defence of lives and property, leading to a confrontation that lasted several minutes.

When the exchange ended, one of the suspects had been neutralised, while two others were apprehended at the scene.

However, two members of the group managed to escape into the surrounding forest, reportedly with gunshot injuries. Security operatives have since launched a manhunt to track them down and prevent further threats to the community.

Items recovered during the operation included a cartridge gun with live and spent ammunition, cutlasses, a metal rod, and charms. The arrested suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the police for further investigation, while the body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at a mortuary.
