President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area in Ogbomoso Zone of Oyo State, commending the Military, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force for the successful operation.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the security agencies for working tirelessly over the last 56 days to secure the victims’ freedom without collateral damage.
He also lauded the security forces for arresting eight suspected kidnappers while neutralising others involved in the abduction.
President Tinubu described the rescue as a major relief for the nation, expressing sympathy to the children, their teachers, and their families for the trauma they endured during the ordeal.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso, in Oyo State today after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists that perpetrated the evil act and led to the arrest of eight of them,” the President said.
He noted that the successful operation ended more than 50 days of anxiety and uncertainty for the victims’ families and the nation.
The President assured Nigerians that his administration would ensure justice for the rescued children and teachers, as well as for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was gruesomely murdered by the abductors.
President Tinubu also commended the Oyo State Government for its collaboration with the Federal Government throughout the rescue operation and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
He further directed relevant emergency agencies to work with the Oyo State Government to provide immediate medical care, psychological support, and other relief assistance to the rescued pupils and teachers.
