Following an attack on the AAGBA community last week Saturday, nine suspects have been arrested by the Oyo State Police command
The incident occurred at Aagba Community in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to the press release by the Oyo State Police command Public Relation Officer, Mr Olawale Osifeso, the attack resulted in nine houses being razed with the properties worth millions of Naira being destroyed.
Mr Osifeso explained further that the burning, looting, and destruction of properties appear to have been targeted on the individuals involved in an ongoing civil litigation over the disputed land where a septuagenarian, identified as Madam Rachael Bamidele, died in the aftermath of the attack.
The incident, which forced villagers to desert the village, was allegedly perpetrated by residents of a neighboring community over a long-standing dispute over land.
Mr Osifeso said that following the incident, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP. Johnson Adenola, swiftly deployed the Command’s specialized intelligence and tactical assets, including a unit of PMF officers, to the village to ensure public safety and restoration of normalcy in the community
According to the PPRO, the Investigations led to the apprehension of one Salawudeen Ismaila, aged 33, a native of neighbouring Oko community, and eight other suspects, as well as the recovery of three unregistered Boxer motorcycles with efforts to apprehend other known suspects who remain at large.
He said the indicted suspects will soon appear in court as the command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance towards all acts that can undermine the efforts of the state government and security agencies to maintain the peace and tranquility of residents of the state.
