The Nigeria Police Force Zone 11 Headquarters in Osogbo has reacted to a statement issued by the Amotekun Corps concerning the arrest of one Amoo Saheed Ajibola.
The reaction is contained in a statement signed by the zonal Public relations officer, Mr Adewole Ogunyemi.
The statement indicates that the suspect is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in gun running, illegal sales of prohibited arms, forgery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
It describes Ajibola as a principal suspect who had been on the run for a long period.
It states further that Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly sold prohibited firearms to unauthorized individuals for criminal activities. He was also accused of forging a fake police license, despite an existing ban on issuing licenses for prohibited arms to individuals since 2018.
According to the statement, three additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, while a barrel gun has been recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.
The statement also indicates that prior efforts to invite the suspect were unsuccessful before his eventual arrest through credible intelligence.
It would be recalled that the Western Nigeria Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, in Oyo State condemned the arrest one of its operatives, Amo Saheed Ajibola, by suspected men of the Nigeria Police from Zone 11, Amo Ajibola who was lawfully deployed to a static patrol position covering General Gas, Akobo Ibadan, while on official duty.
Reacting to the incident, the Oyo State Commandant of the Amotekun Corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), faulted the manner in which the operative was arrested.
He noted that the agency has consistently maintained a cooperative relationship with other sister security agencies which includes the Police, DSS, and the NSCDC, particularly in handling criminal cases involving own operatives.
He stressed that if there were any investigation involving the officer, the appropriate step would have been to formally approach the Amotekun Headquarters, especially since Amo Saheed was on lawful duty at the time of his arrest.
