As Christians across Nigeria mark the Easter celebration, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has called for deep reflection on the virtues of sacrifice, love, and redemption, urging citizens to draw strength from the message of Christ’s resurrection to confront the nation’s challenges.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman Mr Akeem Abas and the Secretary Temidayo Adu, the union emphasised that Easter was not merely a period of celebration but a solemn reminder of the price paid for the salvation of humanity, noting that the season demands renewed commitment to peace, unity, and selfless service.
Oyo NUJ stressed the need for Nigerians to rise above divisions and work collectively towards national cohesion and sustainable development.
The council charged journalists to remain resolute in upholding truth, fairness, and accountability in the discharge of their duties, stressing that the media must continue to serve as the watchdog and voice for the voiceless, particularly at a time when credible information and responsible reporting are critical to democratic growth.
The council also urged well-meaning individuals to extend hands of fellowship to the less privileged, stating that acts of compassion and generosity are central to the essence of Easter and key to building a more inclusive society.
While wishing Christians a peaceful and fulfilling celebration, the statement expresses optimism that the lessons of Easter would inspire hope, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose among Nigerians.
