ICPC Restates Commitment To Tackle Corruption

The Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Aliyu, says the Commission will try its best to tackle challenges of corruption in Nigeria.

He stated this in Ibadan while addressing newsmen shortly after he led a delegation of the commission on a condolence visit to Oyo state government, over the demise of the former chairman of the commission, late Emmanuel Ayoola.

Dr Aliyu said the commission under his leadership had set up machinery on how it would fight corruption and has recorded progress in the last eight months he assumed office.

The ICPC chairman disclosed that a number of people have been prosecuted since he assumed office, stressing that the most important thing is to see prevent the issue of corruption in the country.

In a condolence remark, the ICPC chairman described late Justice Ayoola as one of the best lawyers in Nigeria, saying the deceased laid a good foundation for the ICPC.

He said the commission would continue to follow Ayoola steps in moving the country forward while condoling the government of Oyo state and the family of late Ayoola.

Responding, the state acting governor,Chief Bayo Lawal, described Ayoola as a man of integrity and commitment whose contributions to the nation would not even forgotten.

He also said the state government was ready to collaborate with the ICPC on its efforts to fight the menace of corruption in the country.

The acting governor said the domestication of ICPC at the state level by the present government known as ‘Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA)’ is a way to curb and prevent issues of corruption in the state.
