Local Government Election: OSSIEC Promises Credible Poll

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC has reiterated its readiness to conduct free,fair and credible Local Government Areas,LGA poll in the State, 22nd February,2025.
The Chairman, OSSIEC, Mr. Kasim Abioye gave the assurance during an interaction with newsmen at the Osun NUJ Correspondent Chapel, Osogbo, in response to speculations that the Election date for Osun LGA poll has been changed and other issues.
Mr. Abioye emphasised that, The Commission had commenced the training and re-training of Some Electoral officers and more training would be done before the Poll.
The OSSIEC Chairman noted that the Commission proposed over fourteen thousand Adhoc staff to partake in the exercise .
Mr. Abioye ” Electoral officers are on ground now and they would be there till after the Election, we have concluded their training and series of training would be organised for Adhoc staffs in the nearest future ”
Responding to a recent report credited the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu that, INEC will soon commence the conduct of Local Government Areas Election across the Nation, Mr. Abioye said the Nigerian Constitution established the State Electoral Body for each State, hence, OSSIEC is duly obligated to conduct the polls.
Mr. Abioye emphasised that ” The Nigerian Constitution, which is the highest in the Nation, established the State Electoral Commission in each States, except there is change in the Nigerian Constitution, no other Constitution can stop the State Electoral Commission from conducting polls for the third tier of Government”
Mr. Abioye who stressed that few weeks ago , OSSIEC, set up a Verification Committee saddled to look into the documents submitted by political parties and their candidates in the course of conducting the primary elections and nomination of candidates for the 2025 Council Election in the State, added that the Committee had submitted its report and the Commission has adopted the outcome of the report.
The event had in attendance; Electoral Commissioners including; Mrs. Mobolaji Niniola, Mr. Rafiu Olalere, The Legal Consultant for the Commission, Mr. O. E Yusuf amongst other distinguished personalities.
