FRCN DG Wants Additional Support for Maiduguri Flood Victims

The Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Mohammed Bulama has called for increased support to aid in the rebuilding and rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged in the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri.

Dr. Bulama made the appeal when he led the management of the Corporation to a courtesy visit to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri.

He described the level of devastation as unimaginable which requires the intervention of government institutions, corporate organisations and the international community to fast track in the recovery effort.

The DG FRCN explained that the flooding was coming at a time when the state is recovering from the fifteen years of insurgency, commending the people of the state for their resilience throughout the period.

“The people of Borno are of course very resilient but even in the face of this resiliency, it is very obvious that we need a lot more support to rebuild not only our houses but rebuild lives, rebuild livelihoods, so we need alot of support ” Bulama stated.

Dr. Bulama announced that Radio Nigeria will offer its platforms, especially Radio Link, to state government officials to provide additional insights on the flood and strategies for mitigating future occurrences.

According to the DG, the flooding has directly affected him and some staff of the Corporation.

He said the Corporation stand in solidarity with government and people of the state and also announced a donation of relief items to be distributed to victims through their local representatives.

Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, expressed gratitude to the Director General for his visit of sympathy.

He noted that numerous institutions and organizations have shown their support for the state during this challenging time.

He also praised Radio Nigeria Peace FM for its crucial role in raising public awareness during and after the flood incident.

Similarly, the Director General of FRCN has presented the relief items to victims of the recent flood in the two local government areas of Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere.

He assured to mobilise more resources to alleviate their suffering.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Ngashi Ali and Larai Yaro from Bulabulin ward expressed their gratitude to Dr. Bulama for the assistance, emphasizing that it will significantly help meet their immediate needs.

Items donated include 500 cartons of noodles, 400 pieces of mats, 400 pieces of mosquito nets, 400 buckets, 400 kettles, 400 pairs of slippers and cash assistance.
