Record Breaking: Almost 1000 Desperate Migrants Cross Channel to UK in One Day

Almost 1000 migrants on Saturday crossed the channel to reach the United Kingdom.
A total of 973 migrants crossed in 17 small boats which is the highest number in 2024, beating the previous record for the year which was 882 people in June.
It comes as French authorities said four people died while attempting to cross the Channel on Saturday – including a two-year-old boy who was “trampled to death”.
The other victims were a woman and two men. They died in “two tragedies” on small boats, according to the prefect of the Pas-de-Calais region in northern France.
The four deaths mean more than 40 migrants have died trying to cross the Channel this year, four times the number for the whole of last year.
