Osun State Moves To Combat Leprosy And Tuberculosis

Osun State government has reaffirmed its commitment to the eradication of tuberculosis and leprosy in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye stated this at the distribution of 60 motorbikes to State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisors and their Assistants at the Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo.
Alhaji Igbalaye, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, explained that the distribution of the motorcycles aimed at enhancing access to remote areas across the state, especially where vehicles cannot easily reach due to poor road conditions, ensuring patients in rural communities receive timely care.
He pointed out that project vehicles have also been provided to support the operational needs of the State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, STBLCP and the State AIDS and STDs Control Programme, SASCP, enhancing overall programme effectiveness.
While noting that the diseases have long afflicted communities, Alhaji Igbalaye commended the generosity of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, NTBLCP and support from the Global Fund for donating the motorcycles.
He urged the supervisors and their Assistants to renew their commitment to a healthier Osun State and continue working towards a future free from Tuberculosis and Leprosy.
In a goodwill message, Dr. Folasade Idowu of the NTBLCP, appreciated Governor Ademola Adeleke for his commitment to healthy living of the people of Osun, stressing the need of continued collaboration to combat Tuberculosis and Leprosy.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle, had acknowledged the significant impact the program has had in the state, helping to reduce the prevalence of Tuberculosis.
He urged the officers to make judicious use of the motorcycles provided and ensure they are used solely for their intended purpose.
