Women in Science, Engineering Key to Fast Tracking Nigeria’s Relevance in Global Economy – Stakeholders

Acknowledging the importance of women in Science And Engineering will help to fast-track the nation’s dominance in global economy.

This was the submission of Speakers at the Inaugural award of Funding for women engineers by the Developing Engineering Leaders Through HER, (DELT-HER,) Project In Abuja.

The DELT-HER is a Project Of the Presidential Implementation Committee On Technology Transfer, PiCCT and National Agency for Science and Engineering infrastructure, NASENI.

The Developing Engineering Leaders through HER, (DELT-HER,) Project was inaugurated to address the existing gender imbalance in the study and practice of engineering and technology in Nigeria, by sponsoring the innovative ideas of young, female engineers.

The project coordinator , DELT-HER, Ms. Olamide Apejoye explained that after a thorough evaluation process, six outstanding innovative ideas by female engineers were selected from over one hundred and fifty applications.

Ms. Apejoye explained that the over seventy million naira grant had already been disbursed to the six female engineers and there would be effective monitoring.

Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs Abisola Olayiwola who got fifteen million naira for the production of solar powered snail shelling machine and Ms.Patience Ibrahim-Janda ,with over seventeen million naira for the production of automobile brake pads from organic waste said the grant would spur them to do better.

The chairman Presidential Implementation Committee On Technology Transfer, PiCCT Dr Muhammed Dahiru said  DELT-HER was an initiative that sought to create opportunities for women in engineering to be self-reliant

The executive vice chairman NASENI, Khalil Halilu, represented by the coordinating director planning and business development, Dr Nonyem Onyechi explained that the grant given to the beneficiaries would encourage more female participation in the study and practice of engineering.
