Consumer Protection Agency Bill Passes Second Reading In Osun State

The Osun State Consumer Protection Agency Bill 2024 has scaled through its second passage,after deliberations of its Policy thrust by Members of the State House of Assembly.
The majority leader,Mr. Babajide Kofoworola and member representing Atakumosa East/West State Constituency,Mr. Sanmi Areoye moved the motion for the passage of the Bill, during Plenary presided by the Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun.
Presenting the policy thrust of “Osun State Consumer protection Agency Bill 2024”,The Majority leader, Mr. Babajide Kofoworola explained that the proposed Bill would guard against high costs of consumable goods and also seeks to ensure consumer protection right for residents.
Mr. Kofoworola stressed that the Bill became imperative as it aimed to educate consumers on their rights as regards consumables.
In separate contributions, Lawmakers including; Mr.Lawrence Adeoti, Mr.Afeez Ibrahim , Mr Abiola Awoyeye, Mr. Olumide Fatunmise, Mr.Adewumi Adeyemi and Mr.Tajudeen Adeyemi emphasized that the Bill would safeguard consumers rights, protect, and compliment the efforts of National Agency for Food, Drugs and Administration Control, NAFDAC.
They also submitted that the bill would caution Producers against reducing the Quality of Products and promote fair pricing.
However, The Osun State public Procurement Bill 2024 was read for the first time as the motion wasmoved by Majority leader,Mr. Babajide Kofoworola and seconded by Mr. Abiola Awoyeye.
The Speaker , Prince Egbedun urged his colleagues to study the Bill in detail in preparation for it’s policy thrust.
Under the Matters of Public Urgent Importance, Member Representing Obokun State Constituency,Mr.Adewumi Adeyemi brought to the notice of the House, a collapsed bridge in Ere-Ijesa which connects Oriade and Obokun Local Government last weekend.
Mr. Adeyemi who noted that the broken bridge had affected vehicular movement in the area, Ere-Ijesa requested the State Governments’ prompt attention to ease the suffering of pedestrians and commutters.
However, The Speaker urged the Chairman House Committee on Public Works and Transport to investigate the Issue and report back to the House in the next plenary.
Also During Plenary, JusticeAdetoun Onibokun who Spoke Extensively on Alternative Disputes Resolutions, ADR, cautioned Politicians against Bribery and Corruption during Elections.
Justice Onibokun urged the public to always go for settlement instead of conflicts whenever the need arises and commended the Speaker for being proactive.
In his response,the Speaker, Mr. Adewale Egbedun lauded Justice Onibokun immensely, adding the Legislators have gained a lot from her wealth of experience.
