Benin Republic Monarchs Pay Homage To Owu Kingdom For Historic Values

It was a spectacular occasion featuring the display of royalty, traditions and the rich Yoruba culture as the people of Owu Abeokuta played host to a delegation of traditional rulers from the neighbouring Republic of Benin, that have their roots with the Oduduwa dynasty in South Western Nigeria.
The elated Chief Host and Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola who described the gathering at his Oke Ago – Owu palace in Abeokuta as a family reunion, said the visit of the monarchs, led by the Benin Republic – based Onipopo of Grand Popo, Oba Adeshina Fagbemi was a historical home coming.
Oba Matemilola urged the descendants of Owu across the various borderlines to work together for advancing the People’s collective interest for growth and stability.
In a remark, the Onipopo of Grand Popo, Oba Adesina Fagbemi said the visit was was part of efforts at ensuring the restoration and preservation of his ancestral Yoruba cultural heritage from going into extinction and a means of strengthening the needed collaborations for enhanced unity among the people.
Earlier, The convener of the royal visit and Tolulase of Ajase kingdom, Chief Oguntosin Taye had explained that the delegation’s visit was to identify with their Nigerian roots and renew ties with people of their fatherland.
The three – visit is expected to feature homage – paying ceremony for different groups to show their respect to the monarchs as well as a tour of Owu communities and townships to enlighten the visitors about the rich heritage and cultural landmarks of the kingdom
