Teacher Attempts Suicide For Pupil’s Lost Eye

An 11-year-old primary school pupil in Ogun State has reportedly lost her right eye after she incidentally ran into the cane held by a student teacher coordinating the pupils end of the year celebration.
The affected pupil had allegedly ran into the tip of the cane which caused damage to her eye, eventually leading to the surgical removal of the damaged eye.
Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Ms Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the development to journalists in Abeokuta said the incident happened at Owiwi Nursery and Primary School, Obada Oko in the state capital.
The PPRO explained that the teacher, Adeola Adeyemo, a 400-level student from Tai Solarin University in Ijagun who was on teaching practice at the school was addressing the class on Tuesday, December 2nd 2024, when the incident occurred.
She explained that the teacher who also attempted suicide after hearing that the pupil’s eye was permanently damaged was later arrested, following the complaints lodged by the mother of the victim.
The PPRO said the arrested student teacher who was rushed to the hospital after taking some harmful substances had been stabilized and currently being interrogated by the police.
