Stakeholders Call For Full Implementation Of UNESCO Recommendation On Education Sector

Nigeria Government has been urged to follow the UNESCO recommendation of at least 26% of the National Budget to Education Sector and invest more in Technical Education for skill development.

This was the submission of Panel of Discussants at the 2025 Shafaudeen Interdisciplinary Plenary Session and Award Giving Day for Olagoke Legacy, O’Leg Winners held at the Shafaudeen Centre for Religious Cooperation and Tolerance Centre, CRTC, Ultra-Modern Hall, Wakajaye, Iyana Church, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on the theme: “Bury Not The Talents Of Our Children”, Founder, Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide, Professor Sabit Olagoke said, following the UNESCO recommendation, it would enhance the fulfillment of the physiological needs of the entire population.

He maintained that, Technical and Polytechnic Education should be well equipped to absorb their graduates for national development, saying, every child has potential that could be developed into skills that would make them beneficial to the Country.

In his remark, Chairman on the occasion, Professor Adesiji Adeokun from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, charged students to focus more on Technical Education and shun activities that capable of truncating their future.

In their separate contributions, Zonal Coordinator, NABTEB, Dr. Oladapo Adewuni, A Town Planner from Housing Corporation, Oyo State, Dr. Lukman Yusuff, and a Proprietor in Ibadan, Engineer Luqman Fasasi submitted that, Nigeria needed to address the issue of poverty in the Country, urging students to develop more skills in technology for sustainable development.

On his part, a retired member of Staff of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Alhaji Al-hadi Yusuf enjoined people to be moderate in their spending during the current socio-economic challenges bedeviling the nation.

Earlier, Programme Officer, Centre for Religious Cooperation and Tolerance Centre, CRTC, Dr Ibraheem Adediran welcomed students and invited guests to the annual Programme which he said has been adding values to Educational system in the Country.

At the end of the Programme, participating schools and Winners from Junior and Senior Categories were given prizes for the competition, among whom are, Oyesiji Muslimat from Muslim Model College, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, and Adediran Maryam from Shafaudeen Comprehensive College, Wakajaye, Ibadan.
