Sixteen people have been presumed dead while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal crash that occurred at Buhari Estate, along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The lone crash which occurred around 1 O’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, 4th March, 2025 involved a White Mazda Bus with registration number KJA949YJ.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Mr Akinwumi Fasakin confirmed the incident in a statement through the Coprs’ Public Education Officer, Mrs Florence Okpe.
Mr Fasakin noted that the people involved in the crash were burnt beyond recognition, making it difficult to ascertain their gender adding the injured victims had taken to Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.
He opined that the cause of the crash was fire outbreak which emanated from explosion of gas cylinder on board.
Attributing the fatal crash to the carelessness on the part of the driver for agreeing to carry a cylinder filled with gas, the FRSC sector commander said that highly flammable items should be transported with care and by designated vehicles driven by trained drivers only.
While sympathising with the families of the deceased, Mr Fasakin advised motorists and passengers to put safety first while using the roads.
