Immigration Arrests 51 Irregular Migrants In Nasarawa

Fifty-one irregular migrants from Mali have been arrested in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The irregular migrants were seen without travel documents or residence permits.
Confirming the arrests, Akinsola Akinlabi, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Servic (NIS), said the arrested migrants were victims of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.
According to Akinlabi, the migrants consist of 11 females and 40 males between the ages of 16 and 19.
Akinlabi said the arrested migrants are in custody for further profiling and investigation to determine any potential involvement in trafficking or smuggling networks or syndicates.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to ensuring that Nigeria’s borders are protected against illegal migration while upholding the rights of migrants who comply with the country’s immigration laws.
The service continues to work closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to combat smuggling of migrants and counter trafficking in persons effectively.”
The Nigeria Immigration Service spokesperson reaffirmed the commitment of the service to national security and urged citizens to report suspicious migration activities to the nearest NIS commands and formations.
