First Lady Inaugurates ICT Centre in Oyo State

The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a state-of-the-art National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) community ICT centre at the Oladipo Alayande School of Science in Ibadan, Oyo State. The centre, built in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to enhance digital learning in the state.
Senator Tinubu emphasized that her initiative focuses on empowering communities, particularly women and girls, by providing access to modern ICT facilities. She noted that knowledge of ICT is a crucial tool for breaking barriers and accessing new opportunities, thereby enhancing educational prospects and participation in the global economy.
The First Lady revealed that five other digital centres have been fully equipped across the country, with ten additional centres set to be launched soon. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State praised the federal government for bringing the centre to the state, assuring that the state would leverage the facility to boost digital skills.
The Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted the current administration’s efforts to establish a strong foundation for infrastructure development, encouraging youths to utilize the centre to drive Nigeria’s progress.
The centre is named in honour of Chief Mrs. Onikepe Akande, a two-term Minister of Trade.
