The Independent National Electoral Commission has said both presidential and national assembly elections will hold on February 20, 2027
The INEC chairman Professor Joash Amupitan made the announcement on Friday at a press briefing in Abuja.
The electoral umpire disclosed that elections for governors and members of the State Houses of Assembly will take place two weeks later on March 6, 2027.
The announcement came in spite the delay in the amendment of the Electoral Act, which is still being considered by the National Assembly.
However, it admitted that some parts of the timetable could be affected depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually passed.
Professor Amupitan while assuring Nigerians of free , fair and transparent election said the move was aimed at reducing tension which the delay in the announcement might cause.
He called on all well meaning Nigerians to support the commission to achieve its target aim of conducting a successful election in 2027.
