Kuto Traders Cry Out,Raise Suspicion Over Invasion Of Property Developers

Written by on September 30, 2024

Traders at the popular Kuto market in Abeokuta, Ogun State have raised the alarm over the planned demolition of their stalls by suspected property developers, who invaded the market under the guise of erecting modern structures to replace the old ones.
The situation at the market became chaotic on Sunday, 29th October 2024 when the suspected developers arrived to carry out the demolition exercise but were resisted by a group of youths who pelted them with stones and other items.
Some of the traders who spoke with journalists on the condition of anonymity accused the suspected property developers of failing to present the necessary notices and motives for embarking on the demolition.
Reacting to the development, The Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor,  Mr  Kayode Akinmade condemned the market invasion by hoodlums and policemen, purportedly for the purpose of demolishing and reconstructing the market, adding that efforts were on to apprehend the perpetrators.
Mr Akinmade said two suspects had been apprehended in connection with the incident and urged the market women and youths in the area to remain calm, stressing that adequate security measures would be put in place to prevent any attack from land speculators.
